Flower Power

Janis Joplin
Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's

Debbie Harry

Stevie Nicks

Jackie Kennedy

Twiggy
For some odd reason when I think of summer I think of the 60's and 70's. I'm not sure why but I guess because of the thought of hippies and free love and 'living in a van down by the river' ( Thought I'd add a Chris Farley quote for you) I think of the heat and big sunglasses and when I think of that I think of summer! So you see the connection. I know you must think I'm insane to have to go through all that to make my little connection. But anyway back to my point. I know so many things went on in these two crazy decades like: The Beatles, first moon landing, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Wood Stock, the Twist, and my favorite dance the Mashed Potato and much, much more. But also their are the great style icons. I narrowed it down to some and I know when you look at a few most people think their from a different decade but I double checked they did at least one thing in these two decades. Enjoy!

Summer Adventures

What Time Is It??                        ADVENTURE TIME!!!

It's almost summer!! Time for fun, freedom, and adventure. When I think of summer I think of all the sun, shorts, tan people and..... movies! Plus the summer is perfect for reading. But anyway these are some movies for summer: The Goonies, Stand By Me, Thelma and Louise, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, ElizabethTown, and Little Miss Sunshine. I know that most of these don't even add up to all the great summer movies to watch but these are just a few and anyway if you really shouldn't be inside all summer watching movies (but I understand if you want to.) So go out and have a great summer!

The Pictures I Promised

 My favorite Ramones tee.
My mom's old jean vest which i plan to wear tomorrow
My favorite crazy shirt the collar has polka dots as well. I get plenty of stares in this top.
And my favorite floral vest. Is it wrong for me to say it's my favorite floral vest if it's my only floral vest?

I promise you my favorites and here are some. Sorry I had more patients today but these take a long time to load on my computer so I only added a couple of my favorites. I'll add more later on.

Sincerely,

Illa L.

My Favorites

I wanted to post photos of some of my favorite clothing pieces but the photo upload thingy takes to long and I don't have very much patients right now. I don't know why I guess I've been listening to much Elvis Costello. He seems to always put me in a dreary mood, but I still like his music. But anyway I just tell you about my pieces: I have a floral vest that I got for $1 at a flea market. I also have a jean vest that was my moms and an old Ramones tee that I cut the sleeves off of and it's a tank top now. Also a black top hat that I ordered from one of my mom's catalogs. Plus a butt load of pins I have over 70 I lost count though and I've actually started making my own pins and hair clips. I have a jane pin and a Daria clip and I have a Duckie pin. I love Duckie I must admit he's just so.... cool in a complete dorky way. I must say when I first saw Pretty in Pink i thought Andy should have been with him I mean how can you not love him after he dances in the record store. But anyway back to the topic, I'll post the photos soon enough, like when my computer doesn't seem to be running slow. Some random favorites of mine: I love robots, bows, mustaches( but not on people. I have 4 mustache necklaces that I love by the way) and white lace. Oh and cameras! I'm a photographer but not officially. Back to my weird life, until next time,

Sincerely,

Illa L.

Stares

Isn't it amazing how if you try to be a little different everyone notices. And when I say amazing you have to know I'm saying it with buckets of sarcasm and wearing my best Daria face ( which I've gotten pretty good at because I spent the whole weekend watching a marathon of the show.) But anyway when I try to change up the usual boring day-to-day day wear all hell breaks loose. I mean girls whisper, heads turn and all this because of one little thing... like: I wear Sattle shoes ( by the way I love!) or a crazy hair clip. I know this sounds small but if I wore my weekend outfits to school I swear some one would have an episode or something along the lines of a stroke because their little hearts I guess just cant handle big skirts and crazy tights with a hat or an outfit like that. So I have to subside to the everyday jeans, converse, and a t-shirt. But I get away with an old 70's or 80's band tee and a jean vest with pins of bands they've never heard of. I guess I should give some of them credit I did ketch a girl wearing a Blonde shirt and when I commented on it she gave me a confused look and let out a "What??" and I smiled and said never mind and walked away. UHH!!! Whatever..... I'll find more old souls one day. I'm so lucky to have a friend who understands me though.  Without her and my awesome ( as close to a Lorelai Gilmore as I can get) mother I don't know who I could talk to. After reading this I realize how anti person I sound I actually have tons of friends who don't know who I'm talking about but I'm teaching them slowly an they're actually really great and my class mates too. But I can't help but laugh when my awesome teachers crack an old SNL , Seinfield, or Ferris Bueller joke and no what but me and maybe one or two other kids are getting it. Anyway I must return to my t-shirt and jeans life until next time.
Sincerely,

Illa

WELCOME

I've been inspired to create my own blog by a very famous Tavi.  I know my blogs name is The Girl with the Red Book- Cover but it's a style blog. I'm not saying I won't mention books because believe it or not but I get some of my style ideas out of stories and I'll post my outfits telling you what my inspiration was and where I got the clothing.  Sadly I can't wear some of the things I'm going to post to school because the dress code believes that my class mates will get distracted. I mean that's probably true but I still wish I could wear something other than jeans and t-shirts, something with a bit more personality. Well anyway hello I'm Illa and I'm welcoming you to my style blog.
